This is how you will create a business and respectable appearance for yourself in 3 steps
The business and work culture in Israel is completely different from that practiced in Europe, the United States and other countries of the world in general. While in other countries it is sometimes customary to dress formally even for the workplace, in Israel the norm is different.
Maybe it’s our insolence and directness, or maybe it’s actually the degree of heat most of the year; But the result is the same – we are less formal when it comes to business attire. On the other hand, this really does not mean that it is allowed and should be disrespected; Especially if you are in senior management positions or independent business people.
So especially for those who do want a little more formality in their business look, the Yossi Ben Nun fashion house is here to help.
Step 1 – Two suits in the closet “women’s clothing” .
It is true that in Israel it is less customary to wear suits, even if it is for official events such as weddings; But still, it is recommended that you have two suits in solid colors (such as navy blue and charcoal gray) in your closet. A suit gives a formal and respectable look without much effort and investment, and is suitable for a wide variety of events and situations.
It is better to avoid suits (and other clothing items) in too bright colors, which may convey lack of awareness or even disaster. This may be interpreted as a negative message when it comes to the business world, where you need to convey that you are a reliable, stable and even somewhat conservative type. No one would want to do business with a manager in a colorful clown suit.
Step 2 – the complementary clothes
There is no doubt that men usually prefer a minimal wardrobe, but that really does not mean that two suits in the closet is enough. You should have at least 20 more basic clothing items, which will complete the dignified look:
5 pairs of pants, of which at least one is jeans, one dark, one tailored and one black; 5 regular shirts, including two with some favorite print, one smooth and two with long sleeves; 5 button-down shirts, one white and one black, as well as 3 pairs of shoes – sports, boots and leather / imitation leather. Don’t forget to also put on a perfume that suits you and makes you feel good.
Step 3 – Confidence “women’s clothing” .
There is nothing to do, part of the first impression is also related to the way we behave in the world. Do we walk with an upright body? Or rather with slightly drooping shoulders? The way you walk, posture and sit may indicate that you have high, medium or low self-confidence; As arrogant or polite and so on.
The subconscious cues we receive from a person’s behavior are sometimes stronger than any conscious cue. Maintain correct posture, with a straight body and shoulders slightly pulled back. When you sit, don’t spread your legs or lean back at a large outward angle. All these may give the impression that you are too arrogant and condescending. Sit straight, with the space between your knees equal to your waist circumference, or a little more than that.
Be sure to smile, radiate ease and speak in an even, non-jumpy tone. The more you persist, the more confidence you will radiate, even if in fact your true level of confidence at that moment does not match. As in most areas of life, here too it is about Fake it till you make it.
